I had it on the xbox 360 and hated it so much that I bought it again on the pc just to have the better control setup (it helped that it was way cheaper and on sale).

A game like DA:O would be too limited by a controller. There were so many annoying loopholes when it came to navigating the menus and using abilities; it made playing a mage infuriating. It also made it nigh impossible to manage my party on a macroscopic level. I say get used to it. It is the best thing to do; the game was built around mouse and keyboard. It'd be like adapting Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights to a console. I'm not trying to talk down to you; it's for the best if you train yourself to use mouse and keyboard, at least for this game.

Sometimes the easiest way you know to do something is the most difficult way to do it. In my experience Dragon Age lends itself to two different play-styles depending on if you're using a KB/Mouse or a controller. Controller is generally a lot faster, as the pause function is more awkward to use and so you're usually limited to five main skills, quick heal (which with enough planning can be exploited in a big way) and tactics for the rest of your party. KB/Mouse tends to lend itself to a more thought out, tactical approach.

The pause function is simple to use and makes giving orders to all your party members far easier. On top of that you are given access to a far greater number of talents that are easily selected. As someone who originally owned the both DA:O and DA2 for PS3 and then switched to PC I found that while the game was enjoyable regardless of which medium I used, however I also found that using KB/Mouse allowed me to survive encounters on higher difficulties then I could otherwise and allowing me to enjoy the challenge a bit more. Also, if you're having issues with finding a target, pressing TAB makes all intractable items visible on screen. If you're talking about DA:O, you should. DA:O was designed to be played on PC with the keyboard and mouse. Console versions weren't even in development until quite late, and by all accounts the controls on console weren't amazing. DA:I on the other hand seems to have been developed with controllers first, and the PC version has controller support. So if you really prefer controllers, you should be catered for by Inquisition. I would suggest you try the KB and mouse first, but if you're going to get a controller, the Xbox One controller is very good on PC.
