Legacy Family Tree Serial Number

I don't recall ever having a serial number, I have been using the. I know on the Legacy Family Tree mail list, I see them responding to things.
I need to move my program to my new computer, I found instructions on how to copy the installation file over to the new computer and have done so but it is asking for a serial number which I don't have. I saw another thread with a similar problem and it was suggested there might be an installation file on the old computer with a serial number. I would love to look but have no idea what the file would be called in order to search for it. I'm simply trying to move it from one Windows 7 computer to another, it seems like it shouldn't be so difficult!
Any suggestions? It is a very simple two part exercise Firstly install FTM on your new computer either from the CD or a download Register and if you have an Ancestry.com account use your Ancestry.com user name and password.
This will make your existing Ancestry.com subscription available on your new computer That takes care of FTM now your actual file Secondly From your old computer in FTM do a File>Backup and tick all the option boxes for media and AMT links etc Save the file which will have the ending.ftmb Using Windows Explorer copy this file to a memory stick or CD or email it to your new computer, which ever works best for you. Save this file on your new computer in a suitable folder. I suggest that you create one specifically for FTM files, but that is personal preference. Now open FTM on your new computer and do a File>Restore and navigate to where you have saved your.ftmb file Now simply open it and FTM will do the rest Takes all of about 5 minutes to do and all your data, media, historical events and AMT links as appropriate will be available etc John D. Thanks John D, and I appreciate the info.
Mutants and masterminds character generator mutagen. However, the place I am stuck is the very first sentence, 'Firstly install FTM on your new computer either from the CD or a download' I have transferred the download file from my old computer but in order to install it it is asking for a password.and I don't have a password. I upgraded to FTM 2014 back in February via a downloaded purchase from Nova, there was never any password given to me. I have a ticket in to them as well to see if they can help. That was the question in my original post, how do I obtain a password to continue with the installation? Surely someone has moved their program from one Windows 7 computer to another Windows 7 computer, how did you do it? Hi, there is a serial code that they emailed to you when you downloaded, that you are needing to 'unlock' your software.
I've done what you are trying to do. I ordered FTM 2012 and then later also 2014 when it came out, and downloaded and installed onto my Win 8 64bit laptop and had to use that serial code. When lightning zapped my machine, I then dug out my old laptop, a Vista 32bit machine. I did like you, I copied my downloaded exe.
File onto the Vista machine and clicked to install and it required my serial code again. No problem, I still had it in the email (still do) and just copy pasted that and I've had zilch problems with it, on either machine. I can still use the copy on the Win 8 machine, I just can't connect to the internet until I get me one of those USB to Ethernet converters. When I do, I'll just go back to using that machine and save my old laptop here with the second install for any other 'emergencies'. Note: I did that with both 2012 and 2014. Copied the download exe. File and installed onto the Vista machine to see which one would run better on it.
(2014 on the 32bit machine, hands down runs better, especially now with that last patch. Will run plumb zippy on the 64bit when I get to install on it that last patch.) But, I digress, Look through your emails to see if you still have your serial code or if you scribbled it down somewhere. If not, Nova should have it and could let you know what it was. (just so long as you haven't 'used up all your installs' yet.
Which if this is only the second time, then there should be no problem. Nova did say to save it to a USB stick or something to have as your 'install disc'. (me, I just left the download file on my Win 8 machine and copied that to my USB stick.
